1. What kind of motorcycles are these? We import “Dnepr” brand sidecar motorcycles produced in Kiev, Ukraine at the now closed Kiev Motorcycle Factory (KMZ). Models include genuine military motorcycles (MB-650) as well as various civilian designs such as the K-750, M72, and others. 2. When were they produced? These motorcycles we are selling were produced in the 1950s and 1960s. Major and minor components (including engines) are upgraded or replaced during the restoration process. The older machines are generally of higher quality than later production motorcycles. The decline in quality was caused by the collapse of the factory’s domestic market following the breakup of the Soviet Union. 3. Who restored them? Our Dnepr motorcycles undergo a complete frame-off restoration by skilled speciality rebuilders in Ukraine. Major and minor components (including engines) are upgraded or replaced during the restoration process, frames powdercoated and electrical systems upgraded. 4. How dependable are they? These are 1940s designs with 1940s technology. Although ruggedly built they are vintage vehicles that require more attention than modern motorcycles. 5. Do I need a motorcycle license to drive one? Sidecar motorcycles may be operated in California with a Class C license. We highly recommend that all riders attend a motorcycle safety course. 6. Parts, service and repair: We service and maintain Dnepr motorcycles in the Sacramento area. Independent shops (particularly BMW and Ural) can also service the motorcycles. Dnepr parts are sold online in the U.S. by several suppliers and U.S. made parts (brake pads, control cables) are now available. |
